Chadwick Investments, in partnership with Progress Power, is proud to be leading the way in renewable energy development with the Springvale Energy Hub.
This transformative project is not only a remarkable solution for repurposing a former landfill site but also a key contributor to Australia’s transition to clean, reliable, and affordable energy.
Together, Chadwick Investments and Progress Power are leveraging their combined expertise to deliver innovative, sustainable energy solutions that will power communities for generations to come.
The Springvale Energy Hub represents a groundbreaking shift in how we approach environmental remediation and sustainable energy production. Located on a 1970s-era sand extraction pit and 1990s landfill site that closed in 2003, this project tackles the challenge of transforming an environmental liability into a valuable community asset. In collaboration with specialists, Chadwick Investments and Progress Power have worked to repurpose the site and mitigate long-standing environmental risks, making it a safe and viable platform for renewable energy infrastructure.
The rehabilitation of the Springvale site is a testament to Chadwick Investments and Progress Power’s dedication to environmental sustainability. The Victorian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) had issued strict requirements for capping closed landfills to manage surface water flow and prevent the leaching of contaminants. Progress Power went beyond these requirements by custom-designing a cap that not only contained the landfill but also supported future land-use options.
This innovative cap involved placing a thick layer of clay-rich soil between the top of the existing landfill cap and surface soil, a process that successfully eliminated nearly all uncontrolled landfill gas emissions. This rehabilitation has paved the way for the development of the Springvale Energy Hub, ensuring the site can support critical renewable energy infrastructure without posing environmental risks to the surrounding community.
The Springvale Energy Hub is part of a national push toward cleaner, more reliable energy. In a highly competitive process, the project was recently selected for the Albanese Government’s Renewable Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), cementing its role in Australia’s renewable energy future. Competing against industry giants, this successful selection highlights the significance and potential of the Springvale Energy Hub.
The partnership between Chadwick Investments and Progress Power has been instrumental in bringing the Springvale Energy Hub to life. Both companies are committed to shaping a more sustainable future by developing renewable energy projects that address environmental challenges while supporting the growing demand for clean energy.
With decades of experience in property development and construction, Chadwick Investments is leveraging its expertise to deliver high-impact projects that contribute to the prosperity of local communities and the nation’s renewable energy goals.
Stage 1 of the Springvale Energy Hub is slated to be operational by 2027, positioning it as a cornerstone of Victoria’s renewable energy landscape.
By contributing significant energy storage capacity to the grid, this project will play a key role in balancing supply and demand, ensuring that clean energy is always available when it’s needed most.
The Springvale Energy Hub has achieved a significant milestone, receiving national recognition through being a successful bidder in the Federal Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). The CIS was awarded as part of the Albanese Government's initiative to support large-scale renewable energy storage projects, placing the Springvale Energy Hub at the forefront of Australia's clean energy transition.
Being selected as one of only six successful projects in Victoria and South Australia as part of a very competitive process highlights the transformative potential of the Springvale Energy Hub.
The project’s innovative approach, converting a former landfill into a key renewable energy asset, positions it as a critical player in stabilizing the power grid, ensuring energy reliability, and contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
The Capacity Investment Scheme not only accelerates the development of the hub’s 115 MW/230 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) but also underscores the importance of projects like Springvale in achieving Australia’s clean energy goals. This BESS will allow for the storage and dispatch of renewable energy during peak demand periods, improving grid stability and making renewable power more accessible to industries and households.
This project emphasizes the innovative and sustainable approach of Chadwick Investments and Progress Power. This support ensures that the Springvale Energy Hub will become a cornerstone of Victoria’s renewable energy infrastructure, contributing to the state’s target of net-zero emissions by 2045 and helping pave the way for a greener future.
At Chadwick Investments, we are dedicated to delivering projects that not only meet the needs of today but also contribute to a more sustainable future. The Springvale Energy Hub is a testament to our commitment to innovation, environmental stewardship, and creating assets that will benefit both the local community and the broader Australian energy landscape for years to come. Through our partnership with Progress Power, we continue to invest in renewable energy infrastructure that supports cleaner, greener, and more reliable energy for all.
